Honeymoon Period Already Over...

The wonderment of newly established parenthood didn't last too long in the Hamp household. Not for any other reason than Colin's acid relux. That poor guy. The prevacid and rice cereal combination is clearly not working any more. He's very uncomfortable and fussy between feedings and especially during feedings. We hold him upright 30 minutes and longer after he eats to allow his stomach to digest all it's contents. We've tried feeding him smaller amounts more frequently. Nothing helps. And just like any parent, when their child suffers, they suffer. That's not even to mention the lack of sleep we're both getting. We're just trying to manuever our schedules and figure out what works best for us. Truthfully, if we could get Colin comfortable with his reflux, we'd have it easy. But that's not the case thus far. I'd even be completely okay if Colin was a high maintenance baby without reflux, but he's not and that's what makes this difficult. We can't stand seeing him suffer.
Needless to say, the pediatrician gets an early phone call from us today to see what the next step is. Try something different, add something to the prevacid or increase his dosage? We need help soon. The last thing we need is for Colin to associate the otherwise pleasurable experience of eating with pain, and then he won't want to eat. Now, THAT would be a problem folks! Wish us luck!

hey guys!! a BIG congratulations on bringing Colin home!!!!!!! we are so excited and know exactly the joys and frustrations that come in the early weeks. just wanted to let you know that what you describe is very similar to our issues with Chase although he never cried. his problem was sleep. is colin on reglan? we took Chase off and it made a huge difference. plus the switch to prevacid helped. we took him to a pediatric gastro doc which helped too. let me know if i can help in any way. ania has my email address. congrats again!! elizabeth allbert

Thanks, Elizabeth! Colin was never offered Reglan. They talked about it, but for some reason decided it was not for him? He has an upcoming visit to a peds gastic doc too. We're looking for that right "combination" of things for Colin. Give Mr. Chase hugs from us! :-)
