Mr. Bradycardia

Of all the things that may keep Colin in the hospital longer than expected, it won't be his weight, or regulating his body temp. It probably won't be his ability to produce red blood cells (although it could be). The one thing that seems to be a constant for our little guy is his bradycardias. An intersting pattern has developed regarding this: he rarely bradys anymore just randomly, but he does do it frequently with his feedings. More specifically, he seems to do it with the thick conconction of vitamins and electrolytes. Some nurses mix this in directly with his milk and fortifier, for one, relatively thick, orange conconction. This ain't your momma's breast milk! Other nurses will tube feed just the vitamin conconction, and put only milk in the bottle. It doesn't seem to matter much, as he doesn't appear to like it either way. Maybe he'll figure this out in time, but I won't be surprised to see the doctors change up the way things are being done currently. The idea of him going a full week with no bradycardias - one of his discharge criteria - seems unlikely, but what do I know?
Colin is trying his best to hit the 3.5 pound mark by the end of the weekend! We'll see. Yesterday, he was at 3 pounds, 6.4 ounces. It would take a very large 1-day gain, but seeing as how he's really hitting the bottles well (upwards of 40 cc's at a time), maybe, just maybe, he'll get there. Before we know it, 4 pounds will be on the horizon. 4 pounds! It seems so big to me now. Considering that everything is relative, I won't ever look at another 3.5 or 4 pound baby again the way I would have prior to Colin's arrival. My perspective has changed. That's not so little. Not anymore. Not to me, anyway. Colin now looks all baby at just under 3.5 pounds. My wonderful, sweet, BIG baby boy ;-)
