Preemies in the ICN

For once, I don't have too much new to report on Colin! That's a good thing in this case, because he continues to do really well. Despite still being septic (having an infection), he's behaving as if he doesn't know he's got anything wrong with him. He's sleeping well, and is starting to have fewer and fewer desats, bradys and apnic episodes (for now). We really appreciate his progress, especially since we see other preemies in the ICN who don't fare as well. One of his "pod mates" - a baby adjacent to him - is really struggling right now despite being much larger than Colin. His situation is apparently very dire, and there is concern he may not make it. Amazingly, his twin brother went home early as he was and is healthy as can be. This goes to show how each baby truly has his or her own course in the ICN. Most ICN stories are successful, but rather unfortunately, some are not. We have added him to our own prayers, and ask all of you who continue to pray for Colin, also do so for this little one.
On the other end of the spectrum, another little preemie nearby - she's just a touch larger than Colin at 1100 grams, or about 2 pounds 6 ounces - was on bubble CPAP for only 24 hours, and does so well breathing on her own that she doesn't require anything except for feedings. She was born at 28 weeks, and is now 2 weeks old. So, being able to see how other babies are doing provides us some perspective on how Colin is faring. He really is doing very well at the moment, but we know things can change in a hurry. We just continue to hope that he continues on his current course. No more infection, no more feeding intolerance, only getting bigger and stronger for our little man! That's our hope.
