Picky eater already? Colin is doing really well on the breast milk feedings, but when they try adding any type of fortifier to the milk, whether it's human milk fortifier or formula, Colin protests by getting those dilated bowel loops (he had them again yesterday as shown on another kub x-ray). We thought previously that this was secondary to the bubble CPAP - and it probably was - but it is also now obvious that any additional calories they give him are just not being tolerated. Thankfully this time, instead of stopping his feedings, they just went back to breast milk only and will let the loops self-resolve which they seem to already have. Apparently Colin wants just mommies milk only - plain. No added sugars or preservatives. It looks like he's going to be a black coffee kind of guy: just give it to him straight. ;-)
Speaking of breast milk, our little man is figuring out how to work a bottle over too! He's had now 3 bottle feedings. The first 2 times he downed 6 cc's of milk, and this last feeding, he managed 9 cc's - almost 1/2 of his maximum feed! So he's starting to figure out the suck, swallow, and breath coordinating that needs to take place. Before we know it, he'll rip the top of the bottle right off, chug the milk down and let out a big, manly belch (belching in some cultures is a sign of approval from a satisfied meal-goer you know).
Joking aside, daddy held him last night while he was taking his second bottle, and he was so adorable to watch! I didn't want to take my eyes off him. We were rooting him on as he had his own cheering section right there in the ICN :-) Our little All-Star.
